arc flash studies

An Arc Flash study is critical to ensuring the health & safety of facility personnel such as maintenance technicians. We provide everything - from the study, to training of your staff.

Testing Services

Our technical services team can provide onsite testing and detailed reporting for a variety of electrical systems. This ensures the long-term reliability of your equipment.

Energy Management

Energy costs can be one of the biggest expenses in an industrial facility. We can help monitor your power, and provide greater insight about where your money is going.

TECHNICAL SERVICES – arc flash studies

safety & protection

An Arc Flash Study is critical to ensuring the health & safety of facility personnel such as maintenance technicians. It reinforces safe work practices & procedures by establishing the risk potential and severity at each electrical connection point. This results in clear guidelines for proper protection with the right PPE. Without a study, employees are usually guessing about protection, and sometimes not wearing any protection at all. Our services include:

  • Short Circuit, Coordination and Arc Flash Studies stamped by a Professional Engineer
  • Field settings and verification of circuit breakers, and application of Arc Flash Hazard labels
  • Updated or new single line drawings in AutoCAD, showing your facility’s power distribution in the right format for a study. This also helps maintenance personnel with troubleshooting.
  • Onsite training of facility staff to understand Arc Flash Hazard risks, work safety and best practices in a live situation, how to interrupt Arc Flash labels, and required PPE

TECHNICAL SERVICES – Field Testing

Testing & Diagnostics

Our electrical technical services team can provide onsite testing of a variety of apparatuses, along with reporting to our customers, including:

  • Low resistance testing prevents long-term damage & minimizes energy waste, and is usually applied to circuit breakers. This testing will indicate any restriction in current flow which might hinder a machine from generating its full power. Periodic testing can assess the internal condition of equipment, and through trending can point to potential future failure.
  • Grounding verification studies: The maintenance and testing of a low resistance ground connection is essential to both the protection and performance of any electrical system. Ground testing should be performed both upon installation (to meet design specification), and periodically thereafter to maintain service.
  • Wire Insulation (Megger) testing & reporting: Spot wire deterioration on new or existing systems. This is usually done as part of a larger preventative maintenance package, but can be done as needed (such as testing of underground wiring).
  • Motor Vibration Analysis and Megger Testing: Motors fail over time, and the best approach is to monitor the health of your critical motors on an ongoing basis. We can test using both vibration and electrical megger testing, to give you a clear picture of the condition of your equipment.
  • Profibus Predictive Scanning & Diagnosis: We have the testing instruments to monitor and report on the health of a network and pinpoint connection deterioration. This allows manufacturers to plan production downtime, taking proactive steps to stop problems before they happen. We can also diagnose in emergency situations.
  • Temperature and Humidity Logging: Humidity can lead to condensation which can damage electrical instruments, and excessive heat can cause components to fail. We can log data in any electrical cabinet and help stop issues before they happen.

Power Studies & Energy Management

Manage your energy costs

You mmay be considering a future expansion and need a power study to be completed. Or you are interested in lowering or monitoring your ongoing energy consumption, or are considering power factor correction. Sheridan can help you monitor power consumption, power quality, and more (providing detailed reporting):

  • Power studies and reporting: Using the latest testing instruments including data loggers, our electricians monitor your preferred location for your preferred duration, then generate a report.
  • Cloud-based monitoring: if you want to monitor your power consumption in real time, we can install Control Transformers (CT’s) with remote monitoring. Through a secure network connection, you can log in at any time and see live data for one or several points, including historical results.
